In addition to major Indo-Islamic monuments dating from the 15th to the 17th centuries, the city features potential heritage zones in the form of *Pols*\u2014traditional residential clusters from the medieval period\u2014a feature that makes Ahmedabad truly exceptional. By combining all these elements, the historic walled city of Ahmedabad possessed all the credentials to become the first city in India to be inscribed on the UNESCO World Heritage Cities list in 2017.<\/p>\n<p>The Historic City of Ahmedabad: Situated in the heart of Gujarat, Ahmedabad possesses a character unlike any other, defined by an entrepreneurial spirit. Although Ahmedabad is a bustling metropolis boasting renowned institutions and a rapidly growing economy, it remains deeply rooted in tradition. The city is renowned for its association with Mahatma Gandhi and\u2014beyond its intricate labyrinth of neighborhoods known as *Pols*\u2014it is home to some of the finest examples of medieval Islamic architecture in the country.<\/p>\n<p>The city of Ahmedabad has gone by many names throughout history: Ashawal (named after Asha Bhil); Karnavati (after Karanadev); Ahmedabad (after Sultan Ahmed Shah); Rajnagar (the capital of Jainism); the politico-cultural hub of Mahatma Gandhi and Sardar Patel; and Amdavad (to the &#8220;Amdavadis&#8221;). The British standardized the spelling as &#8220;Ahmedabad,&#8221; and it subsequently became internationally known by that name. However, in the local vernacular, it gained popularity as &#8220;Amdavad,&#8221; and all Gujaratis refer to its inhabitants as &#8220;Amdavadis.&#8221; Indeed, the city&#8217;s citizens are known as &#8220;Amdavadis&#8221; the world over.<\/p>\n<p>The city is home to hundreds of temples, mosques, and other places of pilgrimage. Among them all, one place particularly captures our attention: none other than the Sabarmati Ashram\u2014Gandhiji\u2019s modest residence, known as Hridaykunj\u2014which he gifted to the nation.<\/p>\n<p><strong>The Gandhi Circuit<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Gujarat takes pride in being the birthplace of Mahatma Gandhi, the Father of India. It is here that he was born and where he launched the movements that drove out the British and brought independence to India. Gujarat features several Gandhi-related attractions. Today, the state government has developed the Gandhi Tourism Circuit, which allows tourists to trace the life of the Mahatma.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Mahatma Gandhi Museum<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>The Mahatma Gandhi Museum pays tribute to Mohandas &#8220;Mahatma&#8221; Gandhi, the Father of the Nation. The Rajkot Municipal Corporation (RMC) and Gujarat Tourism collaborate to manage the Mahatma Gandhi Museum. On September 30, 2018, the Hon. In 1887, Gandhiji graduated from Alfred High School (Kathiawar High School). Gandhiji was one of only two students in his graduating class to pass the high school entrance examination\u2014out of a total of 38 students who passed it.<\/p>\n<p>Accommodation: The Mahatma Gandhi Museum offers a variety of amenities to guests to make their stay more enjoyable.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Flora \u2013 Fauna<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Gujarat&#8217;s wildlife sanctuaries are renowned for their exotic collections of flora and fauna, attracting a large number of tourists from various parts of the world.
